Geez have we lost our most basic ability to meet our most basic needs and use nature to sustain ourselves!!!!!! This is crazy, so what r u gonna raise chickens just for eggs but u r too chicken to kill n eat the chicken when it is no logger producing eggs!!!!! So instead u get in your gas guzzler to head to the nearest store and buy chickens loaded with antibiotics. Gosh people can we just go back to being humans instead of just consumers n slaves to corporations

People who keep animals need to know what to do when they get sick. And it isn’t always practical OR possible to rely on so-called professionals. Just like with delivering babies, folks think that going to school for years makes them more qualified to act than someone who has years of real-world, hands-on experience. I am by no means advocating do-it-yourself veterinary if you’re just starting out, but I think it’s naive to condemn someone for sharing vital information, person-to-person, because there is a legislative body out there that would prefer we all pay out the nose for everything. Hands-on experience under the watchful eye of someone knowledgeable is only dangerous to the monopoly held by educated pros.

It’s kind of like preventing someone from spreading information about how to deal with an emergency birth because they should rely on a professional. What you don’t know CAN hurt you and your animals.

Hello, I am a veterinarian in study.

I can tell you that this lady is breaking the law by giving veterinary advice on administering a procedure to provide medical care to an animal in distress. In BC this is restricted to those who are registered veterinarians, as per the British Columbia Veterinary Medical Association, and is liable to be sued for misrepresenting herself as someone trained to give this advice.

Surrey does not allow hens/chickens on any residential property – regardless of the property size- This from the mayors office!

I would have loved to have seen the looks on peoples faces when she told them to reach in and pull the egg out. Fortunately I have never had to do that.

Great Article.
One thing I noticed though, it says that hens are allowed in Burnaby. The following is a quote from a clerk at the City Licensing Office:

“Unfortunately hens or chickens are NOT ALLOWED in any residential zones per the Burnaby Zoning Bylaw governed by our Planning Department. Hens or chickens are only allowed to be located in our agricultural zones. ”

It is too bad…
