FYI – Earthwise Society in Delta !
With all the talk about backyard chickens (good and bad), Earthwise Society would like to see valuable information getting to those who are curious about keeping chickens, so that they can make a more powerful, informed decision about confidently keeping poultry – or not.
Earthwise Society will host this thorough introduction to keeping poultry, instructed by Clayton Botkin, BSc. (Applied Animal Biology), president of the Fraser Valley Poultry Fancier’s Association. This seminar will cover the characteristics of different poultry varieties, how to give them the best care and feeding, and what you need to know when deciding what, where, how, and whether to keep poultry.
5th (Sat) 10am – 2pm, Cost: $85 payable by cash or cheque. Register by Wednesday June 2nd, 2010. Phone: 604-946-9828 e-mail: info@earthwisesociety.bc.ca.
Dear Mr. Admin,
I wish to learn more about these seminars being offered.
Who is providing them, and what level of knowledge and experience do these people have to provide such sessions. If it is like the other posting by the lady giving veterinary medical advice in Surrey, I too would question the integrity of the people giving the course.
Hi there jimmyinglis,
You seem to have a beef (har har) with backyard chickens in general. I did not approve your other comments because they were inflammatory.
Just a note that the Village Vancouver sessions are not being offered on anyone’s farm, they are offered in various locations throughout the city.
I only publish your comment to acknowledge that you have been heard.

I was wondering how and where people keeping chickens in their Vancouver BC backyards and on their apartment balconies will dispose of the straw needed for nesting for said chickens and how the waste from the chickens will be disposed of. This straw/chicken waste has a strong and offensive smell. Also had city council taken into consideration that most chickens have lice? Chickens are noisy as well. Are people allowed to keep a rooster? More noise. What do the people do when the hens stop laying eggs? Usually the chicken is put into the boiling pot at that time. Are city residents allowed to have a chopping block in the back yard? Then disposal of chicken feathers and innards is another question.
