This is outstanding news. I’m just a bit worried about disease spreading from my birds to the neighborhood kids, but I’m sure the City of Vancouver will indemnify me for any such issues.
Chickens are clean, they are pets, they are dinner!
Currently, the best guess is that registration will open around June 8th. Information about this will likely be posted on the City of Vancouver website soon. (And I’ll post any updates I hear about.)
I heard on the CBC radio program by a chicken expert that you can’t tell the sex untill they;re around 6 months old, not 4 months, he also said that they can’t sex chicks very well at the hatcheries because there is no way to tell.
So where do we go to register?

SO GREAT! What’s the limit per household?
4 hens (over 4 months old). Full info on the City of V’s website.

Squamish Hen Advocates has started to raise awareness regarding keeping backyard hens for family egg production, as part of a dynamic garden.
If any of you have advise for us on this it would be most helpful.
Presently there is a by-law that does not allow Squamish residents to keep hens in R-1/R-2 (residential) areas.
There is a community meeting Tuesday, August 31 2010.
I need all the help and advise I can get!

Are chickens permitted in the city of West Vancouver yet?
